Clean, safe drinking water is the foundation of health, dignity and life; an essential commodity which is often taken for granted by those who have easy access to this commodity. In memory of our mother and grandmother, the Al-Awwal Foundation set out to bring a reliable source of drinking water to the community of Ake, Abeokuta.
Phase 1: Completed April 2023
Phase 1 was completed in April 2023 at a cost of ₦2,046,000. The well was formally commissioned by HRH of Ake, with prayers offered by the Imam of the mosque at Ake Palace. It is electric-powered and has a 5,000-litre storage tank. Local residents have welcomed it warmly, and families now have access to water close to home. Thank you to everyone who donated and continues to donate to this project.
Phase 2: Help us keep the water flowing
Phase 2 will make sure the well stays safe and dependable for years to come. It covers:
Water treatment: renovations and upgrades that keep the water safe to drink
Solar power: solar panels that power the well, so water keeps flowing during electricity outages
Every donation brings us closer to clean, constant water for the families of Ake, Abeokuta.
