About AAF

Al-Awwal Foundation is a vision pioneered by Alhaja Morufat Lawal with the aim to empower children and young adults from impoverished backgrounds with opportunities to lead successful lives.

…it takes a village to raise children

This Foundation has been created in loving memory Alhaja Morufat Lawal who was passionate about helping others and truly lived up to the definition of her name ‘good deed. Alhaja Morufat strongly believed ‘it takes a village to raise children’ and she was often at the beckoning call of her family and friends, to her delight, when it came to assisting with childcare.

It is this passion that the vision for the Al-Awwal Foundation was formed.

Alhaja Morufat Lawal was born to the royal family of Alhaji Badrudeen Olusesi Lawal (Alubarika-loju) of Ake, Okukenu Araba Compound and Alhaja Sinatallah Ashabi Lawal (Iya Alasho) Nee Morin, Ago Oko, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Her birth correlates with the special aura of miracle to her parents, and the community of Egbaland because her mum gave birth to her at the attainment age of 55 years old. Thus, this became more pronounced as “People forget the grace God remember to favour”. The then paramount ruler of Egbaland, Alake of Egbaland Oba Ademola Gbadebo gave the royal approval for the naming ceremony to be held at the Palace Forecourt where individuals caught a glimpse of the miracle child, and to seek the favour of God for the barrens.

Morufat started her elementary class at the renowned St.Peter Anglican School, Ake Abeokuta and was later transferred to Lisabi Elementary Primary School, Ijoko, Abeokuta. She later proceeded to Prestigious Agunbiade Victory High School, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta where she made a remarkable contribution to the growth of Muslim Student Society (MSSN) and later made Ameerah. As a result of her penchant love for Islamic religion and being the passionate child to all, she travelled with her Dad on a pilgrimage to Mecca at a very tender age of 13years and became Hajia before finishing her secondary education. A rare accomplishment one achieves at that age.

She later enrolled at the Teacher Training College for advance studies and later left for another opportunity to study at National College of Aviation Studies, Ikeja, Lagos where she studied Ticketing and Reservation course which she completed with successful grades. She worked with Bottom Line Travelling Agency, a subsidiary of Lufthansa & Alitalia Airline, Marina, Lagos and with the exceptional display of her diligence, commitment and commendation she rose to become the Administrative Officer (Ticketing Division).

The young pretty Aderonke kept a league of friends, associates and accomplices, and during one of her trips and adventures to the United Kingdom in 1986, she met her heartthrob Kabiru Lawal. It was love at first sight which blossomed into a successful marriage. She moved to join her husband in the United Kingdom and the union produced children.

Alhaja Morufat worked with Lewisham Hospital and later joined Department for Works and Pensions, a government arm of Job Centre and due to her hard work and diligence she was transferred and promoted to an Investigative Officer, Antifraud Department where she exhibited a greater zeal of thoroughness, service commitment and staff friendliness. She is so passionate and popular among the staff and valued the love within the organisation.

Alhaja Morufat is among the foundation member of Jamaatul Islamiyyat, UK, member of electoral committee, MAN, Old Kent Road Mosque, member of  Lewisham Mosque Sister’s Circle and Greenwich Islamic Centre Women Forum. Alhaja Morufat was a devoted and dedicated muslimah, dutiful and passionate wife, caring sister, loving mother and reliable friend to anyone that comes across her path. She is a regular visitor to the holy land, Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah yearly and passionately loves to read Quran and listen to its recitation especially her favourite chapter Surah Ar-Rahman.

Alhaja Morufat will be fondly remembered by the family, friends, associates, colleagues and the community for her unprecedented selfless service and gracious humanitarian attitude. We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) grant her eternal rest, forgives her sinful deeds, overlooks her shortcomings and make aljanatu’l fridaos her final abode.

Ameen
